Oahc, Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a personal web page — please read what Wikipedia is not. Then look at the kind of information in our featured articles, and the style used.

Please stop putting back stuff you yourself has described as unnecessary. -- Jeandré, 2006-03-20t19:18z

I did not write bad stuff about the Village School in my Trivia. There are some articles at Wikipedia that have a section called Trivia. I still don't see what is wrong with it. (Oahc)

[edit] Major edit

I've edited the article to remove some information. The personal relationships between staff at the school may be interesting to the people who go there, but it's not encyclopedic. Similarly, the entire trivia section is both unencyclopedic and unverifiable. Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collector of information, and should only contain information that belongs in an encyclopedia. The list of staff at the school is perhaps borderline, but their personal relationships and personality quirks are definitely outside the scope of this encyclopedia. Feel free to add it to some external web page and link to that from here. Fagstein 19:27, 21 March 2006 (UTC)

Also, the information on racial makeup of the school needs to be sourced. Fagstein 19:29, 21 March 2006 (UTC)

There are some articles at Wikipedia that actually contain a section called Trivia. I don't see anything wrong with it. I didn't say anything bad. (Oahc)

It's not a question of saying anything bad. It's a question of whether or not the information is notable. Little-known facts about major celebrities might be considered trivia worthy of mention in an encyclopedia article, but this school is on the edge of notability and trivia about its staff in my opinion doesn't quite fit. Take a look at WP:NOT for some ideas on what should and shouldn't be included in a Wikipedia article. Fagstein 08:19, 24 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] drug pledge??

Should I mention the drug pledge? I know it doesn't mention on the site. Why don't you just call Steve (the school principal) up if you don't believe me? He can confirm it that they do have a drug pledge. It needs to be different other than the website. Right now it looks like a mirror site of the Village School site. I don't understand what's the point of creating schools on wikipedia. They have a site already...and we'll just copying everything from their site onto wikipedia. I'm gonna add the drug pledge in anyway. I bet someone is going to revert my edit as usual. (Reggin)

Please read WP:NOR for reasons why we don't publish original research on Wikipedia. Unless this information has been published by some reliable source, it will have to be removed. Fagstein 08:39, 4 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Lonely?

I've reverted an anony edit again. Here's what the article says now:

The Village School is geared towards students whose needs cannot be met in the traditional school ...

That's pretty general. Here's the "lonely" version said:

The Village School is geared especially for lonely underachievers ...

The "lonely" part is based (per the edit summary) on this text, which occurs just a bit later in the article:

Students who may have felt lost and isolated in a large school often thrive in the smaller and more personalized setting of the Village School.

So, the change that I reverted (a) adds "especially"; (b) asserts that ALL students are lonely, even though the article (still) says "may have felt lost and isolated" (which implies that a lot of students MAY NOT have felt this way); and (c) adds "underachievers".

Please read WP:NOR and WP:V about why it is unacceptable to use your own words in a wikipedia article, as opposed to summarizing or rephrasing wording you find elsewhere. John Broughton | Talk 00:21, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] explanation for my recent edits....

The Village School is geared towards any student who would like to experience high school differently. This is a very neutral statement unlike the previous one. It's not restrictive. It's open to all students if they would like to come. You don't have to be recommended to go to the Village School. You just have to have an interest. Special education students belong in a special school, not an alternative school if they have difficulty with the traditional school.(209.177.21.6 - Talk)

You obviously have some personal knowledge of the school. May I remind you that the ONLY information that is acceptable to put into ANY article on wikipedia is verifiable information from reliable sources: WP:V and WP:RS? My understanding is that the language you changed came directly from school information, as cited in the article. If that is the case (I've not checked), then what you know or think or prefer is irrelevant. And if I'm wrong - that you do have a source for the changes you made - feel free to point that out, and I'll be happy to let the changes stand. John Broughton | Talk 00:21, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] article is copyviolation

The entire article copied almost everything from the site. It is supposed to be in your own words. (209.177.21.6 - Talk) (Special note: I, MrMacMan, took this from the user above's edit that deleted some of the content of this talk page, I have pasted it above.) MrMacMan 23:52, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

I disagree. It is a well-sourced article. Although it uses many quotes from a brochure about the school, these quotes are properly cited. Rhobite 05:41, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Magnet schools?

I am going to add the category magnet schools in new york. It says in the infobox that village school is a magnet school. Village School attracts students from North and South. Magnet schools are alternative schools. If you don't agree, please revert my edit. Thanks. (RainingmySoul 20:53, 7 March 2007 (UTC))

I think your absolutely correct in this. It is a magnet school and such a categorization would be correct. MrMacMan 21:32, 7 March 2007 (UTC)
