Gregory J. Ahern

Gregory J. Ahern is the Sheriff of Alameda County, California. He is 26-year veteran of the Alameda County Sheriff's Office, joining the agency in 1980. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 1986, promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in 2000, promoted to the rank of Captain in 2003, promoted to Commander in May of 2005 and Assistant Sheriff in August 2006. He ran unopposed for the office of sheriff and was elected with 99% of the vote.

His education includes a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics and Business Administration from Saint Mary’s College, city of Moraga. In 2003, he attended the Federal Bureau of Investigations National Academy in Quantico, Virginia.

Ahern officially took office January 8, 2007.
