Greenvale Primary School (GPS) is a large primary school located on Bradford Avenue, Greenvale, in Victoria, Australia. The primary school was originally located on Somerton Road, north of the school until 1988 when it moved to its current location. It has its own oval as well as usage of the Bradford Avenue reserve.
There are around 800 students attending Greenvale Primary School, in about 30 classes. The colours of its school uniform is green, black and white, much like other features of the school.

[edit] Structure of the School
Greenvale Primary School is divided into three minischools, years Prep-2, 3-4 and 5-6. There is one teacher in charge of the Prep-2 minischool, and two teachers in charge of both the 3-4 and 5-6 minischools together.

Greenvale Primary School the interschool sports played by the Greenvale Primary School students vary depending on if it is summer or winter. The sports that Greenvale Primary School are involved with are: Australian Football League, soccer, cricket, basketball, bat tennis and netball. Greenvale Primary School's biggest achievement in summer and winter interschool sport was a 1st in Victoria for Cricket in 2003. Apart from just summer and winter sports, Greenvale Primary School also competes in cross country, long jump, high jump and a number of other track and field events.

Pupils at Greenvale PS are divided into 4 house groups, each named after various parks or reserves situated near or in Greenvale. Students are divided into their house groups for Sports Carnivals and other full school events, because the winning athletes gain points for their house. Each house has 4 captains: 2 House captains and 2 vice captains. Some houses have House Representatives. Each house is also designated a colour. The house groups are:
Gellibrand - Green
Oaklands - Red
Cumberland - Blue
Woodlands - Yellow

[edit] History of the School
Greenvale Primary School was officially opened on March 23th, 1868. The original building was deliberately burnt down by fire on December 9th, 1932, and the offender was sentenced to 12 months in jail. The school was then rebuilt, and it still stands on Somerton Road today. With the amount of pupils at Greenvale PS increasing, the Education Department decided to build a more modern school at Bradford Avenue, where the school still stands today. Greenvale Primary School was officially relocated to the new site on 10 April, 1988. In 2001, the school had a substantial building upgrade, with 5 additional classrooms, a greatly expanded library, and a completly new set of staff and administrative facilities.
