Greenfield, Arkansas

Greenfield, Arkansas is an early Missouri Pacific railroad town located 5 miles north of Harrisburg, Arkansas and about 10 miles south of Jonesboro, Arkansas on the new Highway 1. The town lies at the foot of Crowley's Ridge, a lengthy formation that stretches for miles across the state.
At one time, Greenfield boasted a railway depot, passenger train service, 5 general mercantile establishments, two churches, a hotel, a saw mill, a cotton gin, flour mill, and numerous personal residences. Today only the churches and personal houses remain, and the town has a population of approximately 75 people. During the 19th century, loggers practically clear cut the region for timber. Today, numerous farms raise soybeans, rice, wheat, milo, cotton, and corn.
