Green Township, Clinton County, Ohio

Green Township, one of thirteen townships in Clinton County, Ohio, United States, is located in the southeastern part of the county. In 2000, the population was 2,602, up from 2,007 in 1990. The entire township lies in the Virginia Military District. The village of New Vienna is in the southeastern part of the township along the Highland County line. Formerly part of Highland County, the land was transferred by the Ohio General Assembly so that Clinton County would have the Constitutionally mandated 400 square miles of territory. The township was created by the Clinton County Commissioners on August 21, 1813.
The township is bordered on the southeast by Fairfield, Penn, and Union Townships in Highland County, on the southeast by Clark Township, on the west by Washington Township, on the west and north by Union Township, and on the north by Wayne Township.
The township is governed by a three-member board of trustees, who are elected in November of odd-numbered years to a four-year term beginning on the following January 1. Two are elected in the year after the presidential election and one is elected in the year before it. There is also an elected township clerk, who serves a four-year term beginning on April 1 of the year after the election, which is held in November of the year before the presidential election. The trustees and clerk are chosen in non-partisan elections. Vacancies in the clerkship or on the board of trustees are filled by the remaining trustees.
