He is a combination of DC Comics' Lex Luthor and Marvel Comics' Red Skull.

[edit] Golden Age

In the 1940s, Lex Luthor was a very rich man, who used his charm to get what he wanted, including his wife Lois Luthor. Though Super-Soldier believed Lex Luthor was slime, the rest of the world thought him to be a successful contributor to society, and was friends with the rich and powerful, including the likes of Prime Minister Winston Churchill and President Franklin Roosevelt. However, he was secretly a high-ranking Nazi who was plotting alongside Adolf Hitler, and employing the likes of Major Zemo to do his bidding. Luthor's greatest hope was complete world domination.

Lex Luthor designed Ultra-Metallo, the enormous Green K-powered robot that eventually led to the supposed demise of Super-Soldier. After Luthor sent Ultra-Metallo to attack Super-Soldier, both the robot and the superhero sank beneath the Atlantic Ocean, with the entire world believing Super-Soldier to be dead, and Ultra-Metallo permanently defeated. However, this was not the case. Another design of Luthor's were K-Bombs, powered by the meteorite Green K, which he gave to the Americans to end World War II, realizing he would have to work towards world domination another day.

[edit] The Formation of HYDRA

Luthor founded the terrorist organization known as HYDRA after World War II had ended. Luthor eventually met someone new, Whitney Frost, and had his agents murder his current wife, Lois Luthor, in order for him to marry Whitney Frost. His daughter, Selina Luthor, was horrified, as she witnessed the death of her mother. Whitney Frost, who shared Lex Luthor's visions of world domination, assisted him in turning HYDRA into one of the most powerful organizations in the world.

[edit] The Green Skull

Lex Luthor immediately went after Super-Soldier after the Golden Age superhero had been thawed out of the ice he had been frozen in for so many years by the Judgment League Avengers. The rejuvenated Super-Soldier battled against HYDRA under the leadership of Luthor in Action and Suspense Comics #59.

Apparently, while Super-Soldier had been frozen, the Green Skull had found another arch-nemesis, Bruce Wayne, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.. The Green Skull made numerous attempts to destroy Bruce Wayne, though all of them failed.

Lex Luthor, under the name of the Green Skull, eventually found Ultra-Metallo, the machine he had previously thought was destroyed, submerged in the Atlantic Ocean. By this time, his skin had turned green after injecting Green K into his bloodstream, hence his new nickname. This event also prolonged his life, possibly to the point of immortality. After reactivating Ultra-Metallo and using it to attack the White House, Super-Soldier was finally able to stop him and expose him as a criminal.

[edit] Replaced

The Green Skull broke out of prison with ease, though he was surprised to find his daughter, Selina Luthor, who had joined HYDRA, attempting to take control of the organization he had taken so long to create. Selina Luthor and her henchmen supposedly murdered the Green Skull in Bruce Wayne: Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. #1 (1996), though it may very well have been a robot or lookalike, because the Green Skull was revealed to still be alive and well at the end of the issue.

[edit] The future

In the alternate future where Lobo the Duck resides, the Green Skull teamed up with Thanoseid and destroyed many superheroes. It is believed that in this timeline, the Green Skull was killed or incapacitated, along with Thanoseid, by Lobo the Duck, who may have had help from others, such as Bat-Thing.
