- Plaxico Burress, NFL football player
- Andre Cason, former sprinter and olympian, U.S. Track Team
- Keith Goganious, former Penn State and NFL linebacker
- Matt Darby, former UCLA and NFL linebacker and defensive back
- Alton Grizzard, former Naval Academy quarterback and Navy SEAL (died in 1993)
- David Robinson is an alum but transferred to northern Virginia with his Naval Officer father before his senior year.[citation needed]

The site for Green Run High School:
- is one of three Virginia Beach schools built on land that can be traced back to the Algonquin Indian settlements.
- was once used as a garden farm for the Norfolk City jail.
- was owned by a Mennonite Farming family until sold in the late 1960's as part of the Green Run planned development.
