Green Pond Road Stadium

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Green Pond Road was a stadium in Walthamstow, London. This was Walthamstow Avenue F.C.'s ground for many years until they merged with Leytonstone & Ilford to form Redbridge Forest, a precursor to Dagenham & Redbridge. Leyton Orient also played here for several years[citation needed] under the guise Clapton Orient. The stadium was unusual in that the 3 stands formed a triangle round the pitch so that it looked more like a baseball stadium than any football one[citation needed]. The stadium's record attendance was 21,708[citation needed] for an 1948 Olympics football game. The ground was often simply called 'The (Green) Pond'.
