[edit] Permanent casino
Greektown Casino has abandoned plans to build a 26-story hotel tower at Gratiot and I-375. Instead, it will stay in the Greektown district. Site preparation for the new hotel which included demolition of a city-owned parking garage started in June of 2006. Construction began in October 2006 with an expected opening in 2008. The new design (after two redesigns) will include:
- a new 13-story, 3,500-space parking garage at Monroe and St. Antoine
- a 30-story, 400-room hotel attached to the parking garage
- 25,000 square feet of convention space
- spa
- 1,200-1,500-seat theater
- 25,000 square feet of additional gaming space built over Lafayette to bring total gaming space to 100,000 square feet .
