The Last Waltz (box) (2002) |
The Band's Greatest Hits was a compilation released in 2000 to coincide with the release of remastered versions of the group's first four albums. Drawing very heavily from those albums- a full thirteen of the eighteen tracks come from them (four, four, three and two respectively)- it is a lopsided effort that falls short in presenting a definitive picture of the group in under eighty minutes.
However, the material is strong, and the disc is a better way of getting acquainted with The Band than their 1976 compilation. Still, the 1989 compilation To Kingdom Come, even if out-of-print, is an even better place to get started, if not with the actual albums themselves.
