Greater Nagoya Initiative

Greater Nagoya Initiative(GNI) is a Japanese promotion activity to open the industry and the economy in Greater Nagoya Area to the world and to attract campanies, technology, people, and information from the world to the area as the first model project in Japan. The initiative is promoted by Greater Nagoya Initiative Center(GNIC). The region's governments, business community, academia, research institutes join in the initiative and about 300 campanies, universities, and research institutes belong to the GNI Pertners Club. Now, the initiative is backed by three prefectures, 24 municipalities, and 12 business organizations, as well as the Japan External Trade Organization(JETRO), and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry(METI).

[edit] Greater Nagoya Area

The area is within 80-100km radious of Nagoya and almost coincides with the Chukyo Industrial Area where Japanese motor industry, aerospace industry, electronics, and machine tool industry are highliest accumulated in Japan. The area earn the most of Japan's trade surplus.

  • The initiative started in July, 2004 by Chubu bureau of Economy, Trade and Industry METI.
  • The main promoters are GNIC, established in February, 2006, and GNI office of Chubu bureau of Economy, Trade and Industry METI.
  • The funds providers are METI and JETRO.
  • Three prefectures, 24 municipalities, and 12 business organizations back the initiative.
  • GNI Pertners Club holds about 300 campanies, universities, and research institutes.
