The Montreal CMA is a census divistion defined by Statistics Canada while the CMM is a level of government in Quebec, and is led by a president, who is currently Gérald Tremblay, mayor of Montreal. The CMM has a land area of 3,838 km² and an estimated population of 3,493,485. The slightly larger Montreal CMA had a land area of 4,259 km² and a population of 3,635,571 at the 2006 Canadian census.[1]
