[edit] Quick Plot

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

The saga kicks off with a still-deceased Goku fighting in an Other World Tournament which results in a draw due to a double disqualification. 7 years later, the main bulk of the stories focus on the now 18 year old Gohan as he tries to adjust to high school life without revealing his powers, as that would attract unwanted attention to himself. While on the way to his first day of high school, he transforms into a Super Sayian to hide his identity to stop a bank robbery (He also transformed twice previously, stopping 2 previous crimes while on the way to his entrance exams). This new "Gold-Hair Fighter" becomes the new talk of the city, and Videl, a classmate of Gohan's and daughter of Mr. Satan, is suspicious that he might be the Gold-Hair Fighter. In response, Gohan asks Bulma to make him a costume to hide his identity while fighting.

He becomes The Great Saiyaman, quickly winning the admiration of the city through his feats. But he attracts suspicion from Videl, who as Mr. Satan's daughter also fights crime and gets regular assistance from the police. Videl later finds out Gohan's secret, promising to keep it safe in exchange for flying lessons and on the condition that Gohan enters the upcoming martial arts tournament. This leads into the World Tournament Saga. This saga aired in Japan in 1993.

[edit] Detailed Plot

With Goku out of the picture, the Earth hasn't suffered much. The friends and family of Goku are dealing with the loss decently, and Gohan is enrolled into high school. Since his dad left, his mother Chi Chi had more influence on him, to make him get into books and studies. Also, another little surprise knocks at the door. Gohan now has a 7 year old brother named Goten. Goten resembles his father Goku more than Gohan did, and Goten is a kind boy. Gohan mostly deals with high school issues. Popular kids, grades and trying to fit in. With the world still having some small trouble, Gohan decides to become a "Super Hero". He asks Bulma if she could create a uniform to disguise his identity from society. Thus creating the image of Saiyaman. He mostly runs around protecting little old ladies, and banks. He ends up on the news and actually meeting and going to school with a girl named Videl, the daughter of Mr. Satan. (The World Champion that robbed Gohan of his efforts for defeating Cell.)

Videl, a pure hearted vigilante herself, eventually discovers Gohan's true identity, and uses it as blackmail to get him to both enter the upcoming martial arts tournament and to teach her how to fly, which she learns with surprising ease over the course of just ten days, on which Gohan comments "well, she did know martial arts already...". This saga ends with the beginning of the martial arts tournament, as Videl has begun to realise the extent of her (and everyone else's) potential.
