Great Hiwassee
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Great Hiwassee, also known as "Ayuhwasi Egwaha" was an important Overhill Cherokee town. It was located on the Hiwassee River, near present-day Polk County, Tennessee, on the north bank of the river where highway 411 crosses the river.
The town was linked to Great Tellico and Chota (Cherokee town) to the north, via the Warrior Path, which followed Conasauga Creek into the mountains.
