Great Falls of the Catawba River
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Great Falls of the Catawba mark the point at which the Catawba River crosses the Fall Line of the Piedmont Plateu on the border of Lancaster County, South Carolina, and Chester County, South Carolina. Prior to the creation of the Fishing Creek Resevoir by Duke Power, the falls were a major point on the river. The creation of the dam at Great Falls, South Carolina has reduced the waterfall to little more than a series of rough rapids. As of 2006, interest groups have formed in the Carolinas to restore the Great Falls by removing the dam and beginning a major restoration project of the Catawba River.
Below the Great Falls of the Catawba River, the river flows into Lake Wateree where it becomes the Wateree River.
