Great Expectations is a 1998 contemporary film adaptation of the Charles Dickens novel of the same name, directed by Alfonso Cuarón and starring Ethan Hawke, Gwyneth Paltrow, Robert DeNiro, Anne Bancroft and Chris Cooper. The film's score was written by Scottish composer Patrick Doyle, a veteran of many literary adaptations and frequent collaborator of Kenneth Brannagh

Great Expectations received moderate to poor reviews. Roger Ebert gave it 3 stars, and said ``Great Expectations begins as a great movie (I was spellbound by the first 30 minutes) but ends as only a good one."¹ RottenTomatoes.com gives Great Expectations a 38% critical review. IMDB.com users have rated the film 6.4/10. The film earned a total for $26.3 million (US).
