Gre-No-Li

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gre-No-Li is a contraction of the surnames of three Swedish footballers: Gunnar Gren, Gunnar Nordahl and Nils Liedholm. The denomination was colloquially used after these players composed a formidable trio of strikers while playing for the Swedish national team and AC Milan in the 1950s.

The three forwards led Sweden to the Olympic gold at the 1948 Summer Olympics in London. Their most noted achievement at club level is taking Milan to the league title in 1951. As well as this, Liedholm and Nordahl won the title in 1955, while Liedholm won the title in 1957 and 1959, after both Gren and Nordahl had moved away.

Of the trio, Gunnar Nordahl was particularly successful, as he was the Serie A's top-scorer for five seasons and is currently the second-highest goalscorer of all-time in Italy's top division.
