Talk:Grassroots Left

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

To the anonymous idiot who is taking attacks on the NLS page and swapping them around to attack Grassroots Left, maybe take a look at the edit history, as I'm pretty sure the person attacking you is an ex-member of NLS from QUT, not a member of Grassroots Left. Just because you're in a faction where everyone takes orders from the top and has their entire lives dictated by their leaders doesn't mean that other factions work like that too. I think that is an unfair, unprovoked and unwarranted attack against NLS members. Just because a troll is going around making edits doesn't mean you can unload your vitriol on wikipedia. Theusualsuspect 00:31, 14 January 2007 (UTC)

To the moron who claims the grassroots left did a deal with the Liberals at NSW NUS State Level - this is a blatant lie. There are only two Liberals on NSW NUS State Executive, which the Liberals easily had quota for in their own right. LibStu 13:54, 14 January 2007 (UTC)

There were only four campuses represented in NSW state branch (Wollongong, Sydney, UTS, UNSW) as Newcastle, UWS, Macquarie and the smaller campuses in the north didn't have delegates represented.

The numbers were: UNSW: 5 NLS, 1 Liberal, 1 Independent Sydney: 2 GL, 2 NLS, 1 Liberal, 1 SA, 1 Unity UTS: 2 NLS, 2 NLC, 2 Liberal, 1 Unity Wollongong: 3 GL, 2 Unity

This adds up to 36% for NLS, 18% for GL, 15.6% for Liberals, 14.2% for Unity, and 7.1% for NLC, with 3.7% for Robert from UNSW.

The quotas thus were:

  • 4.92 - NLS
  • 2.46 - GL
  • 2.12 - Liberals
  • 1.92 - Unity
  • 0.96 - NLC
  • 0.5 - UNSW indies

I'm not sure of the numbers on state exec after the election, but I do know that there were two Liberals along with Robert from UNSW. GL did not give any votes to the Liberals. All our votes went to the NLC. Where they gave them, I don't know, but they did not go to the Liberals. If they had gone to the Liberals they would have gotten five people elected, not two. The prod is completly unjustified. Although GL are diametrically opposed to me ideologically, I certainly support their inclusion here as a very influential voice in Australian student politics, and indeed, am puzzled as to why only GL was singled out as opposed to other factions.
