According to the Full Points Footy website, the first "grand final" to decide a football premiership was in 1889 between Norwood and Port Adelaide of the then South Australian Football Association, when the season ended with them having equal win-loss ratios (source) - Lukeoz 17:26, 17 January 2006 (UTC)
