[edit] Summary
Source: http://www.baen.com/chapters/W200603/1416520511.htm?blurb, and one which the publisher will be delighted to let us use.
I've requested a blanket GFDL of Jim Baen for all such covers on his site www.baen.com
This was initially published as a serialized eBook (eMagazine), then as a collection (eBook), and then published in traditional print as hardcover, all of which the image is principally being used for Grantville Gazette II, constituting fair use. It should be noted, that this image is being used in the two general articles on the sub-series; The 1632 Editorial Board article will contrast this cover with the ebook cover on this same work.
In addition to that, this image will be used in the generic sub-series article The Grantville Gazettes which tracks all members of this group of works which are initially released as serialized eMagazines, then as eBooks, and finally then in print over a nine to twelve month period successively in normal hardcover, and trade paperback succession.
Another target article is the Main book series article 1632 series (though not immediately); Thus there will be four fair uses of this image as forseen.
I also have a blanket permission from the author.
[edit] Licensing
This image is of a book cover, and the copyright for it is most likely owned either by the artist who created the cover or the publisher of the book. It is believed that the use of low-resolution images of book covers
- to illustrate an article discussing the book in question
- on the English-language Wikipedia, hosted on servers in the United States by the non-profit Wikimedia Foundation,
qualifies as fair use under United States copyright law. Other use of this image, on Wikipedia or elsewhere, might be copyright infringement. See Wikipedia:Fair use for more information.
To the uploader: please add a detailed fair use rationale for each use, as described on Wikipedia:Image description page, as well as the source of the work and copyright information. Please include in your fair use rationale details of the particular edition (publisher, market & year of publication) of the edition you have used, and also acknowledge any cover artist if such artist is acknowledged in that edition's frontmatter. If the book cover is in the public domain (see Wikipedia:Public domain), then use the appropriate public domain tag rather than this one.
