Graveley

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Graveley is a small village, about four miles east of Hitchin and two miles north of Stevenage in Hertfordshire, England. It has several attractive cottages, the 18th century Grange and Gothic House, and the George and Dragon with its 18th century facade of chequered brick, as well as The Wagon and Horses. The church has some Norman work and, just across the fields, is the site of Chesfield, a former village with the ruined walls of the 14th century church still visible. There is also a primary school.

According to recent statistics by the North Herts District council, Graveley has a population of 1,731.

The village has a popular monthly newsletter entitled "Graveley Matters" currently run by Alan Lines, a long term resident of Graveley.

In the Autumn of 2003 a major clean-up operation was performed on the village pond (seen below).
