The Grand Canyon Unified School District #4 is a school district located in Grand Canyon Village, Arizona. It is believed to have the only K-12 school that is located inside a US National Park.
[edit] Overview
The district operates under the leadership of superintendent Sheila Breen, J.D. and principal Bob Kelso (as of 2003) and five school board members.[1]
Students in grades K-12 attend school on a campus with six buildings. The school has a four day week.
The district has adopted the Discovery and International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme and Middle Years Programme with a student count of slightly more than 300 (K-12). In February of 2007, the school became an authorized PYP school.
[edit] History
On July 10, 1911 the first school in the Grand Canyon opened. In 1916 the first county-funded schoolhouse was built, which still exists. Four years later a Parent-Teacher Association was formed.[2]
