Gran Turismo 4 Mobile was announced at a Sony press conference on May 11, 2004, at the unveiling of the PlayStation Portable (PSP). It is intended to be an exact port of the PlayStation 2 game, Gran Turismo 4, for the PSP system. To much disappointment, it has (as of April 2007) still not been released, and a new release date of November 2007 is now the current date on sites like EBGames.
[edit] Controversy
Gran Turismo 4 Mobile was originally intended to be one of the flagship games of the PSP. When it was announced, many could not believe that such a vast game could fit onto Sony's proprietary UMD format, and also that such a game would not be able to run on the hardware of the PSP. Now, due to its increased delays, many believe that the game will never be released.
Despite this, Gran Turismo series producer Kazunori Yamauchi has been constantly reassuring the press of the game's existence. The last of such events occurred on September 25, 2006, when Kazunori mentioned that reasons for such a vast delay of Gran Turismo 4 Mobile included the development of Gran Turismo games for the PlayStation 3, primarily Gran Turismo HD (a game which has since been cancelled, although a demo is available for a limited time only on the Playstation Store). All of this seems rather odd, as Kazunori claimed that the fundamentals of the game had been completed as of August 2004, with only the adjustment of "makeup" remaining.
However, for the first time, a date is making its way on to the internet. At several American online stores, including Wal-Mart, the game is available to pre-order with a date of February 27, 2007 being listed as the day that the game will be dispatched and has since been updated to March 14. UK stores, including Amazon.co.uk, have a date of March 30, 2008 listed, but others have dates in March or April 2007. There is certainly no confirmation of these dates, as Sony have removed any records of the game from the majority of their vast array of PSP-orientated sites, but for many this may come as light at the end of the tunnel.
