Graffadi, a play on the word graffiti, describes the use of street art for advertising purposes. Once part of an underground subculture, graffiti has become so recognizable among mainstream culture that corporations are targeting consumers by spray painting messages on public walls, often in classic graffiti styles. Sony, for example, has used street art in a recent advertising campaign, displaying cartoon-like pictures of youth playing the PlayStation Portable.[citation needed] Street artists have nicknamed the video game corporation "Fony" in response to its use of street art.[citation needed] Artists have attacked corporate graffadi by splashing red paint over the ads (Punk Planet, March/April 2006).
