[edit] History

Ilan Shemes has been making GrabIt changes since the program has been introduced. GrabIt currently is on revision 1.6.2 Beta.

[edit] Uses

The GrabIt program is solely used to read and download binaries from usenet newsgroups.

[edit] Features

[edit] Search

GrabIt is one of the few newsreaders to include a search function. This search function searches all of the newsgroups on the Shemes news service. This is beneficial for the user wanting to find a certain binary or article. The downside to the search is that a user can only do a fixed amount of searches without being subscribed to Shemes news service. Also the queries returned will be those listed in the Shemes service and not necessarily of the users.

[edit] Multiple Connections

GrabIt also allows multiple connections to the news service. Depending on the news service selected the user can have up to 32 connections running simultaneously. This allows for faster downloads, updating, and processing of groups.

[edit] NZB Files

An NZB file is a format developed by Newzbin.com. It allows a user to download multiple parts of a file using only one file. Instead of downloading 20 individual files a user can import an NZB file that will download all 20 files for them. An NZB file is beneficial for users that use websites such as the originator of the NZB file. A user can import the NZB file and download the included files without ever searching through a group.

[edit] Yenc

Grabit also has a built in Yenc decoder.
