It's really nice to see this diagram here; it is very helpful in orienting the reader to the complex information at hand.

Shouldn't the ??? at the top indicate something like "application layer e.g X, Y, Z"? What does go in the application layer? SMS? Audio and video files? It would also be nice (though perhaps someone less compact) if the diagram were more accessible to non-technical folks. More explanatory labels at each level might be helpful. For example, what is the difference between the two IP layers? Does one get data between neighboring devices, and the other from end to end, or what?

Application layer (well, the next layer up; it's better to forget OSU) can be any IP protocol; e.g. FTP over TCP, DNS over UDP IPSEC (well tunnelled anyway.)

Appearance and functionality might be improved if this diagram were re-implemented as a table. Then, the boundary lines and written characters would render cleanly, and the acronyms could have links to the appropriate articles. -- Beland 23:41, 27 Dec 2004 (UTC)

be bold, if you can come up with something close, I can certainly check technical accuracy. Mozzerati 21:05, 2005 Feb 11 (UTC)
