[edit] Naming

Why switch the names to "governorate"?

  1. governorate is the official Iraqi naming
  2. this is more in line with translation of muhafazah in other arab countries
  3. the term province is usually reserved for wilaya

[edit] Discussion=

I would favor switching, to have an all-arab solution Tobias Conradi 06:52, 9 Mar 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Merge

  • don't merge, as it is usual for subdivision articles not to be merged Tobias Conradi (Talk) 20:46, 12 March 2006 (UTC)
Do other countries have separate articles for subdivisions? I don't see the point of this one as there doesn't seem to be any difference. AndrewRT 12:17, 13 March 2006 (UTC)
When I meant difference, I should have said I dont' see much information within "subdivisions" that isn't in "governorates". I was just trying to tidy up the categories but know you mention the other countries I agree they should be kept separate. Besides another subsection - regions of Iraq will soon be needed!! [edit] Kirkuk

Is there a source for the name change from At-Tamim to Kirkuk? Being so controversial we should enforce that policy here. AndrewRT 21:56, 12 June 2006 (UTC)
