[edit] History

The Government House was built by the government of the Dominion of Canada in 1883 for a price of $24 000. Two years later it was sold to the government of Manitoba for $1 providing that the house would be used as a residence for the lieutenant governor; and for no other purpose was written in Sir John A. Macdonald's own handwriting at the bottom of the document. Since then, it has been the home of 20 of the 23 lieutenant governors of Manitoba.

[edit] Today

Today the house is the official residence of the Honourable John Harvard, the current lieutenant governor.
