[edit] History

The regiment was created from Gotlands infanteriregemente and one armoured battalion of Göta pansarlivgarde in 1963. It was given the designation P 18 (18th Armoured Regiment). For a short time in the 1990s, the unit was merged with the wartime organized Gotlandsbrigaden. In 2000, the unit was reorganized and renamed back to its old designation and name.

In 2005, the regiment was closed down.
