Gotham Stakes
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Gotham Stakes is a race for three year old thoroughbred horses run in March at Aqueduct Racetrack. The race is the final local prep to the Wood Memorial Stakes. The Gotham's prestige has dipped in recent years, but in the past many Kentucky Derby winners have graced the race including Triple Crown winner Secretariat.
A Grade III event with a purse of $200,000, it is set at a distance of one and one-sixteenth miles on the dirt.
The Gotham, named for New York City, often called Gotham City, is in its 55th running in 2007.
In 1995, Da Hoss placed in this race.
