Gospa (1995) is a religious drama starring Martin Sheen and Morgan Fairchild about events surrounding pilgrimages to a small village in Hercegovina where six school children claim Gospa (Croatian for the Virgin Mary) appeared in 1981. The movie highlights Communists preying on Catholics and Croatians who suffer at the hands of authorities. Martin Sheen plays Franciscan priest Zovko, who was tortured by the Yugoslavian regime and tried for treason by the Yugoslav government for refusing to betray his people.
