Goshen stone

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Goshen stone is a rare rock found mostly in the US that is called "some of the most 'beautiful' and 'well known' landscaping stone in the country."[1] The stone sells for approximately 100 US dollars a ton.[1] Goshen stone is "mostly a silver and bluish gray color with some coppers, rust and golds."[2] The stone is a mica schist [3], a metamorphic rock type derived from mud sediments deposited on the bottom of the sea during the lower Devonian Period .[4] This would make the approximate age of the stone 400 million years old.[4][5]

Goshen stone appeared in US national headlines in 2007 when Matt White, a minor league baseball pitcher discovered approximately 2 billion US dollars worth of the stone on a piece of property he had recently purchased.[1]
