Gortavoy Bridge
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Gortavoy Bridge is located in Shanmaghery near Pomeroy a rural part of County Tyrone, Northern Ireland. The main road linking Pomeroy to Donaghmore (B43) runs through it and also links the villages of Rock and Galbally. The local homesteads of Corrycroar and Coolmaghry are nearby. It is known locally as the three eyed monster of Gortavoy, giving reference that the small river running through it actually negotiates through a bridge that is in three parts. The area around Gortavoy Bridge has changed considerably over the last 25 years due to modern agricultural farming and several business premises nearby. A number of residential properties have sprung up, so obliterating some rural aspects of the area it was renowned for. Though some aspects of the area has changed the country side around the bridge has remained scenic and dipped in local tales. At the rear of Gortavoy Bridge the now dismantled railway line to Pomeroy is situated. A number of bridges in the area are still in use to provide access to local areas.
