Gorseinon College

Coleg Gorseinon College was established in 1955 as a mining college for the local area, by 1982 the college became a tertiary college and was incorporated in 1993. The college is situated to the west of Swansea, in the suburb of upper Loughor in Gorseinon. The college has over 2,400 full time students, which places it as a medium sized college by welsh standards. During the late 1990s the college had a high increase in the number of students with an FTE base of 1,800. The College offers a range of course from over 42 A and AS level subjects ranging from Classics to Archaeology to Mathematics and Media Studies, over 20 Vocational Subjects from Motor Vehicles to Engineering to Information Technology. The College also has several other preparation Courses such as the Army and Oxbridge preparation Courses.

[edit] Campus and Catchment Area
The College operates on several different sites in Gorseinon and the surrounding villages as well as one site in the neighbouring town of Pontarddulais.
- Belgrave Road Campus - Main site of the College, provides A level and all Vocational Courses ranging from AVCEs to NVQs to BTEC awards
- Kingsbridge, Swansea Centre - Provides Vocational studies in Motor Vehicle training
- Life Long Learning, Pontarddulais - Established in 1997 to provide continuing and adult further studies to over 700 people
- Life Long Learning, Gorseinon - Established in 2001 following the success of its sister centre in Pontarddulais
The College predominantly recruits from two local comprehensives: Pontarddualias and Penyrheol. The College also serves and recruits from the surrounding nine wards. However, the college tends to attract students from all over the City and County of Swansea as well as the adjacent local authorities of Carmarthenshire and Neath Port Talbot.

In 2005 the Colleges results for A levels were:-
- 98.2% overall pass rate
- 60.8% A or B grade passes
- 83.9% A, B or C grade passes
The AS Level results for 2005 were:-
- 93.9% overall pass rate
- 51.7% A or B grade passes
- 73.2% A, B or C grade passes
For vocational courses in 2005 the results were:-
- 94.7% overall pass rate in AVCEs
- 100% overall pass rate in BTEC national diplomas and certificates
- 94.2% overall pass rate in BTEC first diplomas
In recent years the College has provide successful in the number of students it send to University with over 30 students being accepted into Oxbridge with six being accepted in 2005 and seven students being offered a scholarship at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth. The College also won the Beacon Award in 1999-2000, 2003-2004 and also being highly commended in 2003-2004.
