Walking Man (1974) |
Gorilla (1975) |
In the Pocket (1976) |
Gorilla is singer-songwriter James Taylor's sixth album. Released in 1975, it was more successful than Walking Man, his previous release, with two hits: "Mexico" and "How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)", which rose to the top five on the Billboard charts. This would be his second to last release of new material for Warner Bros. Records... his last being "In The Pocket." In many ways, Gorilla showcased Taylor's electric, lighter side that was so evident on his previous album "Walking Man." "Gorilla," however is arguably a more consistent and fresher sounding Taylor with classics such as "Wandering" and "Angry Blues." His wife Carly Simon is featured on "How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)" originally recorded by Marvin Gaye. This track shows Taylor's love for R&B. Like so many other artists including Elton John, Billy Joel, and Cat Stevens, James Taylor would continue the 70s electric sound throughout the rest of the decade. This album along with his 1977 album "JT" marks the pinnacle of this new sound.
