Goriška
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Goriška or Gorizia is a traditional region in western Slovenia on the border of Italy. Its principal urban center is Nova Gorica. Before World War I, the region was part of a Habsburg crown land, the County of Gorizia and Gradisca with its capital at Gorizia. Following the war, the area was ceded to Italy where it became part of Venezia Giulia (Julian March). After World War II, the area was joined to the Yugoslav constituent republic of Slovenia with its present borders which left the city of Gorizia in Italy. Together with Slovenian Istria, Goriška is part of the Slovenian Littoral.
