Gorgonzola
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Gorgonzola is a comune in the province of Milan, and is part of Lombardy, Italy. The well known Gorgonzola cheese is claimed by the residents, the Gorgonzolesi, to have originated in Gorgonzola in 879, [1] although other towns claim the origins.[2] Perhaps the most renowned connoisseur of Gorgonzola is Christopher Snowden, who founded the international register of Gorgonzola and related products. He frowned upon the lack of popularity of the cheese, and was quoted as saying "I refuse to bow down to the queen until she passes the gorgonzola".
[edit] In popular culture
- In Belgian comic book series The Adventures of Tintin, criminal tycoon Roberto Rastapopoulos claims to be the "Marquis di Gorgonzola"; Gorgonzola didn't actually have a marquis at all, let alone a fugitive Greek one.
