Gordon Landon

Gordon Landon is a long-time and popular figure in local politics in Markham, Ontario. Landon is a long-time resident in the town and had been a regional councillor before retiring from politics due to illness. Landon recovered and was elected back to York Regional Council in November 2006.
Gordon Landon, by being re-elected in 2006, becomes the longest serving Councillor in history of the Town of Markham. Upon completion of this term will have been a Markham Councillor for 28 years. As well as being a Markham Councillor, Gordon will have been a York Regional Councillor for 20 years upon the completion of this term.
Gordon Landon is resonsible for designing a waste management system for York Region that is being reviewd word wide for participation and it 70% diversion rate from . Gordon Landon was the chief proponent for the Markham Bypass. This Bypass is now being renamed to honour former Mayor Don Cousens. Gordon Landon was responsible for bringing 911 into York Region. Gordon Landon is also resonsible for running the world's largest house league tournament named after the former mayor Tony Roman. The Tony Roman Memorial Hockey Tournament allow 2,500 children to play in 9 arenas for one week.
