Gopalganj Sadar is located at 23.0167° N 89.8333° E . It has 51630 units of house hold and total area 391.35 km².

As of 1991 Bangladesh census^GRBangladeh, Gopalganj Sadar has a population of 291409. Males constitute are 50.73% of the population, and females 49.27%. This Upazila's eighteen up population is 141978. Gopalganj Sadar has an average literacy rate of 44.7% (7+ years), and the national average of 32.4% literate. ^[1]
