Gonzalo of Sobrarbe and Ribagorza

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gonzalo (assassinated 26 June 1045) was made Count of Sobrarbe and Ribagorza, two small Pyrenean counties, before 1035 by his father, Sancho III of Navarre. He succeeded to these domains after his father's death in that year and ruled them independently as "King" until his death.

Sancho divided his vast domain between his three legitimate progeny and his eldest, but illegitimate, son. Gonzalo was the youngest and thus received the two small counties. He died not long thereafter and his dominions were gobbled up by the eldest brother: the bastard Ramiro I of Aragón.
