González, sometimes also spelled Gonzales is a family name. In Spain, the country from which the surname comes, it is the second most common surname (only after García) and 2.08% of population are named González..^[1]

González is of Spanish origin and means "son of Gonzalo".^[3]

Common spelling varations include Gonzalez (without an acute mark) and Gonzales. The Portuguese spelling of the name is Gonçalves.
