Gold and Silver
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Gold and Silver, a song written and recorded by Quicksilver Messenger Service, first appeared on their debut album, Quicksilver Messenger Service (album). It is completely instrumental and features the most popular instruments of the Haight-Ashbury area (piano, electric guitar, drums and other percussion instruments.) The song is fairly long, being around 6 minutes and 45 seconds.
Written by Gary Duncan, the song is probably the first example of jazz-rock ever recorded. It is in 6/4 time and was inspired by Brubecks Take Five which is in 5/4. For many old Quicksilver fans this is a definitive song which captures the amazing instrumental viruosity of the group, and explains why the band was such a legend.
