Dragon Ball 3: Gokuuden
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Dragonball 3 Goku Den (translated; Goku's Story) is a 'Battle Card' role playing game. Released by Bandai in 1989 for the Famicom console in Japan. 'Battle Card RPG's are a strange hybrid of role playing, board games and trading cards which are unlike anything seen in the west like the previous game in the Card Battle series.
In the game you move your Super Deformed Goku around a game board style world, space by space. You encounter characters on the way, some will offer information and others you will have to battle. The battles are where the Battle Cards come into play. The outcome of each fight is determined by the randomly generated hand of cards you and your opponent are dealt. You take it in turns to turn over a card and the action on the card combined with the order you revealed them in determines your attack strategy. The battle itself is then animated in the panel above. Fights continue like this until one of the characters is defeated.
This game relates all the Dragon Ball story until the fight against Daimao Junior. You can only play as Chibi Goku (and later Adult Goku) though sometimes you get to play as Kuririn or Yamsha.
All but one of the seven Dragonball/Dragonball Z games released on the Famicom use the Battle Card system.
This game was remade to be released on the Wonderswan in 2002.
