Goff is the 946th most common family name in the United States. It is particularly prevalent among those of Welsh or Irish descent. Other variations of the surname include Gough and McGough. The English version of the name is an occupational name from Cornish and Breton goff ‘smith’ (cognate with Gaelic gobha). The surname is common in East Anglia, where it is of Breton origin.
