The New Godavari Bridge crosses Godavari River near Rajahmundry. Constructed by the Hindustan Construction Company (HCC), this bridge is a modern day engineering feat. It is based on 28 bow string arch girders with equal spans of 97.5 m, thus making the total length 2,730 m. The bridge is fit for 250 km/h rail services. It was commissioned by South Central Railway on 11 March 1997. The bridge links East and West Godavari districts of state Andhra Pradesh.
The Old Godavari Bridge or the Havelock Bridge was built in 1900 by Sir Arthur Cotton, now decommissioned, this bridge has 56 spans and is 2.754 kms long. It was constructed with stone masonry and steel girders and certainly a marvel of British engineering.
