[edit] Synopsis
This episode, subtitled "A Lesson in Forgiveness" teaches viewers the importance of forgiving others when they act carelessly or thoughtlessly. The first segment is a loose parody of John Steinbeck's The Grapes of Wrath. In this story Pa Grape makes his VeggieTales debut as the patriarch of a family of cranky grapes, who, upon seeing ("a stranger") Junior Asparagus standing by the side of the road, proceed to hurl insults at him. Junior forgives them at his father's urging, but must forgive them a second time when they laugh at his comical though unintentional tumble down a hill.
The second segment, "Larry's Lagoon" parodies the television classic Gilligan's Island. In this story Larry the Cucumber plays the part of the first mate who, while daydreaming, crashes and sinks a ship, marooning its passengers and crew on a deserted island. The passengers are unable to forgive him for ruining their vacation, but Bob the Tomato, playing the part of the Skipper, convinces them of the error of their ways. The cast is finally able to escape the island on a bamboo helicopter cobbled together overnight by the Professor.

- Some Veggies Went to Sea (tune: Some Pirates Went to See), sung by Bob and Larry
- The Forgiveness Song, sung by Palmy
[edit] Notes and Trivia
- Other than the title and a pastoral setting, "The Grapes of Wrath" bears no resemblance to the Steinbeck classic of the same name.
- The voice of Palmy was provided by Jeff Morrow, who also was the voice of Dig 'Em Frog, mascot for Kellogg's Sugar Smacks.
- Instead of a "Silly Song with Larry" this episode features an infomercial for a device called the Forgive-o-Matic. However, the Silly Songs proved to be such a fan favorite that the creators of the show subsequently planned for their inclusion in most future episodes. The Forgive-o-Matic has been used as a source for self-referential humor in several subsequent episodes.
- There are no veggie equivalents for Ginger (the movie star) and Mary Ann in "Larry's Lagoon". According to the Skipper (Bob), they cancelled their trip. At the time, there were relatively few female veggie characters.
- This is the first episode in which characters are portrayed with facial hair (Larry and Bob have thick mustaches and beards when Larry is pretending to be a Russian whale rescuer)
- This is the only episode in which Ma Grape and Rosie Grape appear.
