Soft-blocked?

Yes, well as most UAE connections are legally required to use the ISP's (Etisalat) proxy, it is a bit inconvenient. When I see minor edits for example (spelling, grammar, etc), I try to edit but get the IP blocked message so often don't bother. What? Why do I have to contact my ISP? I don't understand something. Your comments appear to conflict with WP:IP?

Hello. The IPs are assigned as proxies, via the international service ([1]), and my block of 195.229.241.187 (talk • contribs) is what caused the collateral damage. According to Meta:No open proxies, "Users are prohibited from editing Wikimedia projects through open or anonymous proxies. Although Meta encourages anyone in the world to contribute, such proxies are often used abusively." Khoikhoi 05:14, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

I don't follow. It's not like we can choose to use the proxy or not (well, we can but it's illegal in the UAE to try and get around it, unless you live or work in certain proxy-free locations). It's hardly an anonymous proxy - it is clearly under the control of the ISP Etisalat. Or am I missing something? signature 06:35, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

Unfortunately, some of the IPs have been abused as proxies by certain users. Please try to refresh your IP or get a new one through a different ISP that doen't offer dial-in proxies that can be abused to disrupt Wikipedia. Khoikhoi 20:20, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
