Goat roping

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Goat-roping is a rodeo event that is similar in every way to calf roping, except for the outright stubbornness and unpredictability of the goat.

The event starts with a goat that is released from a chute at one end of an arena. A roper follows on horseback and must lasso the goat--any part will do--from his or her mount. The rider then hops off the horse, runs to the goat and must tie three of the goat's legs together. The event is timed and once the goat is tied, the clock stops. Fastest time wins. If the rider misses the goat completely with the lasso or the goat becomes untied before five seconds have passed, the rider receives no score.

Goat rope is also military slang for a "messed up" situation.

"Goat Roper" is also a slang term used to describe a country\rural person who dresses like a cowboy. When I was growing up it had become semi derogatory but was really being used to describe a mentality or lifestyle that a person or group of persons possessed, which was "countryish".
