Goat Rocks dome

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Goat Rocks was a volcanic dome rock formation that existed on the north slope of Mount St. Helens, an active volcano in the state of Washington. Goat Rocks was originally created in a series of eruptions between the years 1800 and 1857, which is the eruption cycle now referred to as the Goat Rocks Eruptive Period. Beginning in March of 1980, the north face of the mountain beneath Goat Rocks began to buldge outward due to the intrusion of magma. Goat Rocks was obliterated in the major eruption event on May 18, 1980 that destroyed the entire north face and top 1,300 feet of the mountain.
