I am sure the bennetts article in my sandbox might lead into the beverley sheep disease - have you come across the mention of it at all? SatuSuro 13:24, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

my youngest finishes primary this week - and is getting teeth pulled out tommorow - unfortunately he's too young for Borat - will have to try something more civilised :) - BTW I need help for massive loading onto commons - maybe email would be better. SatuSuro 13:40, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
Boy was he in grumpy mood - offered him anything - just wanted to come home and watch tv! my thing is that I have about 50 -60 images to load into commons at first pop - is there a better way than others to do this - i think you have already told me. :) SatuSuro 13:02, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
Thank you for that the wow addict is trying to stay on as late as poss again - so I might have questions re the commonist another day. Thanks again SatuSuro 13:21, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

Damage to neo-Nazism article continues

User:NovaNova is being persistent in continuing his (or her) campaign of reverting a section of the Neo-Nazism article to an inferior version that does not focus on the actual topic of the article. That editor has also started using anonymous IPS to make those destructive edits, and shows no sign of ceasing this counterproductive edit war. Spylab 14:06, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

Lamb of God

Just wanted to re-thank you to the lock on this page. It is unfortunate that people will automatically change "metalcore" to "metal" simply because they dislike the label, it makes the page false, and as we know it is the WP:HMM goal to help keep the pages neat and accurate. I've posted my concerns on the Metal talk page, I hope that this user doesn't change the genre to something unsourced again...I was actually thinking we could see what'd happen if we unlocked the page temporarily. It's too bad that edits like that continued though...oh well. Regardless, I will continue to watch the page, and thank you again. --Ryouga 23:56, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

I think that the LoG page should not limit their genre to post-thrash/metalcore for the fact that it is hard to limit them to two genres that they are only influenced by and do not fully express either the post-thrash or metalcore genres. I feel that their genre should be labeled as "(American) Metal with varied influences (including post-thrash, metalcore, prog...)". Or, as the Slipknot page (in a sense, and more literally in the discussion page) does, not list the specific genre but contain the information that they are an American Metal band whose genre is disputed among not only critics but the fans. Ryouga listed three references with them being listed as metalcore while I gave him about four sources that pretty much state that it is hard to identify them as any one genre. This goes without saying he ignored my references. I do agree with the fact that they contain metalcore influence, but I do not agree that they are strictly a post-thrash/metalcore band.

The reason I did not change the page myself and brought this to you in the first place is because I did not want to have my posting privileges taken away for "abuse".

Well, I did post on the discussion page for LoG before coming to you. I listed my references but Ryouga claimed that they were "random labels" and disregarded them. I was actually in a discussion with Ryouga on the page before becoming a registered user and I only vaguely insulted him once in my last post while talking to him, mainly because of how he treated, not only me, but others on the board as well. I did, before that, however, counter him in what I felt were incorrections and never implied anything negative about him.

I don't want to tattle tell or anything but this is exactly what he has stated to me "this shows your ignorance" (this was just after I proved him wrong about Melodic Death Metal, so we were both wrong about one thing), "if you knew anything about","Even rockdetector and the MP3.com editor are smart enough to see the metalcore of their sound", "no LOG-obsessed fanboy would accept" (that one implied I was the LOG fanboy).

To another person he wrote "I pity you for believing this band to be "Pure American Metal" simply because of their slogan. Slipknot claims to play "metal metal," however, any true metal fan would point you to nü metal. Similar thing with Lamb of God -- they are a borderline metalcore band. I know this, because I know my metal. the citations are simply there to disprove the idiocy of the IP address who constantly attack the page and change the genre to something completely incorrect, such as "Black metal." Now please, stop arguing with what you do not understand, and perhaps in time this page will be unlocked",

So as you can see, I've tried to cite examples on how LoG are hard to define as a genre and have actually mentioned it in my posts, but each time I tried to respond I was hit in the face with an insult and incivility. I fear that if I tried to just change the genre myself, or attempt to bring back my suggestion, he would claim that I had abused the page or am incorrect.

The only absolutely major act of what could be called "vandalism" is the removal of the metalcore genre, which is cited 3 times. There is no reason for its removal -- in fact there was a time where groove metal (same thing as post-thrash) and metalcore were the only genres there, until one person decided they were not metalcore. I do not recall when exactly that happened, but ever since then, the page has been in constant revert wars. It is not my wish to clutter the page with irrelevant genres -- those two had stuck, and are cited. Neither of this has been done for the other user/IP address edits. Check on that yourself (the citing still points to the sources I gave). The descriptions that someone else gave ("This goes without saying he ignored my references"; a link was NEVER actually provided, although) were abolutely ridiculous, and changed greatly from album to album (ex. "thrashcore with metalcore influences" or something, and "thrashcore" is a type of hardcore, not metal, thus it would simply further disprove the metal label. The point is, if there is valid information to add, discuss it. Don't remove what is proven. Otherwise, the page may be locked again (not to mention some people simply go and attack the page with total vandalism, like editing the band name or whatnot). As of right now, follwoing the unlock, the page has been edited by the user "MetalForever" for the same reason it was locked -- removal of cited information and undiscussed/irrelevant genre change ("Death Metal" and more ambiguously "Metal"). Gnangarra, I'd say it's totally your call on what you want to do. And as for "I fear that if I tried to just change the genre myself, or attempt to bring back my suggestion, he would claim that I had abused the page or am incorrect." That is a false claim. No one had any penalization for any of this, nor were they requested for it. If they had actually cited a link in the page it'd make more sense. Not once did anyone cite any valid links, except for tell me what they remember seeing on some random site(s). Update: Honestly, if someone would give me a cite, I wouldn't be as upset about this. The removal of the "metalcore" genre is just completely agitating. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Lamb_of_God_%28band%29 The only reference to a genre there is a link to the Encyclopaedia Metallum, that another user (not I) had linked. As you can see, there weren't any proper cites. If the other user(s) and I could reach a consensus that didn't involve unsourced edits, this page would cool down. Thanks for all help thus far, again. --Ryouga 05:27, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

This is the closest thing to a "cite": "Aggressive Thrashy Metalcore", As The Palaces Burn as "Aggressive Melodic Metalcore", Sacrament as "Hardcore Death Metal" None of the preceding genres are existent on Wikipedia, or really, anywhere else. Nor was any direct linking given or used in the actual reverts I made. --Ryouga 05:35, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

AMH

Thanks for your tinkling with links and positions and things. I have just found out why there is scuh a dearth of maritime history on wikipedia - you wander the categories from ShipTransport and through sub categories and the water transport by country - and there these categories linked - but the water transport thingy sort of relegates maritime history into a mere byway by the way it insists on the unilateral water transport by country heirarchy. whew! there are all these categrories and no parent/master article - so the actual quality of the original/end 'ship transport' article is primary school level and hardly does justice to what is a massive heirarchy/tree. What do you think? Am I ready for the gardening as I said to moondyne? I'd apprecite your opinion. Its a bit of a trawl through the stuff, no rush. SatuSuro 01:43, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

There is a very bare talk page that might bring out some sort of reaction when you are ready.... :) SatuSuro 14:33, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

Quick question re Wiki -> commons

Thought I'd throw it your way as you seem to know a fair bit about images and licensing :)

In my ignorance I created a bunch of images on en a while back, which are drawn in a paint program and hence free (they're the suburb maps for Albany). I've since realised Commons is probably a better place for them (and I have an account there) - is there a way to move them there or does that have to be done by an admin? Or would it be better to just reupload them there and delete them here? Orderinchaos78 15:26, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

Thank you for voting in my RfA which at 51/20/6 unfortunately did not achieve consensus. In closing the nomination, Essjay remarked that it was one of the better discussed RfAs seen recently and I would like to thank you and all others who chose to vote for making it as such. It was extremely humbling to see the large number of support votes, and the number of oppose votes and comments will help me to become stronger. I hope to run again for adminship soon. Aquinas College, Perth Article

Thanks for your help in relation to the article, it is much apreciated, but it does cite external references, like the PSA Athletics Handbook 2006. But why (for other stuff) would external sources need to be cited, when the college is going to be more of an expert on itself, than some random who is interested in it? it seems crazy that you would need more external sources, but i do have them. So i removed the tag, what do u think? refer to talk page Aquinas College, Perth. Thanks =) Smbarnzy 12:11, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

A while back you made a proposed article for the Aquinas College, Perth page, i looked at it, found is interesting and well thought out, i made a few changes / additions. Kofi Annan Semi-protection

Hi, I see that you've reversed your decision to give Semi-protection to the Kofi Annan page. I was delighted and relieved (and I know I'm not alone!) when you came through with Semi-protection. As I mentioned in my requests, the page has been an ongoing magnet for racist vandalism -- which reflects very badly on Wikipedia.

Although it's linked to from the main page, it's not out of the question to give it Semi-protection -- as contrasted with locking it up completely. Even the statement re policy only says "It is rarely appropriate to protect pages in this case." Note that it doesn't say "never" -- and that was referring to FULL protection, in any event.

This page is crying out for Semi-protection to keep the pathetic anonymous vandals from continually posting their not-so-cute racist remarks, etc. Please... reconsider this, and restore Semi-protection ASAP. Not just to spare myself and the other concerned editors from a lot of pointless & unnecessary work, but also to protect WP from an undeserved reputation for racist comments in articles about people of African ancestry.

Kofi Annan protection

There was a request at WP:RFPP for semi-protection of Kofi Annan and I went ahead and protected the page. WP:SEMI says: To prevent vandalism on the day's Featured Article. Semi-protection for a very brief period is acceptable to remove excessive vandalism from the page, or to combat an unusually high level of vandalism from multiple IPs or accounts. For a rationale of this, see Wikipedia:Don't protect Main Page featured articles. Other pages linked from the Main Page may be protected if under attack, though more leeway should be given with these than with most articles.

I'm assuming you unprotected just because it was on the Main Page, and I just wanted to let you know that this usually applies to Featured Articles, not stuff in ITN, DYK, OTD, etc. Nishkid64 02:36, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

Re: Blocking policy unprotection: policy page changes should be by consensus, regular editors can still edit the page

Err... "regular editors?" I'm sure that you're aware that neither Wikipedia:Protection policy nor Wikipedia:Semi-protection policy say anything about "regular editors." I'm going to replace the request for unprotectionand link your earlier refusal as well as this discussion. That way if you're busy, someone else can discuss it, or if you're not you can chime in.

Any chance you're planning on taking your camera down to Kings Park some time soon? Banksia epica needs another photo. A photo of the overall form of the shrub would be great. 19:08, 19 December 2006 (hist) (diff) Template:National parks in Australia (moved Template:National parks in Australia to Template:National parks in Tasmania: that is all it has at the moment and it would be too big if all states were added) (top) 19:08, 19 December 2006 (hist) (diff) m Template:National parks in Tasmania (moved Template:National parks in Australia to Template:National parks in Tasmania: that is all it has at the moment and it would be too big if all states were added) 19:04, 19 December 2006 (hist) (diff) Template:National parks in Tasmania (get rid of all states except tasmania)

So thats it so far... SatuSuro 12:46, 19 December 2006 (UTC)

I may well have created a storm in a teacup - but the problem might be that I have confused an info box for a category - or vice versa - or the current process so far is ok? I just think the two participants need to speak to each other - or use a forum to explain issues rather than what has happened so far - who knows they might team up and do great things? I certainly hope so! SatuSuro 12:54, 19 December 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for that SatuSuro 13:43, 19 December 2006 (UTC)

Apologies

About all that above- over-reaction - the orangutan issue got trounced by someone this morning - but it was unpleasent last night. bit like the weather. Trust all is well SatuSuro 07:21, 20 December 2006 (UTC)

Re: today's images

Welcome. Nice map. I've been using Image:Swan River Colony land grants map.png at Land grants in the Swan River Colony; this is a great map at full res, but unfortunately doesn't render properly at low res. I wonder if that article would be better illustrated by your new image.

I've replied to other stuff on at my talk page, so as to catch OIC too. Hesperian 11:03, 20 December 2006 (UTC)

Thanks :)

Thanks for rating the Hamersley article... it's still a work in progress as I'm getting access to the TPS soon and also going to take better photos (I'm thinking of replacing the title image with one of the community centre which has "Hamersley" clearly printed on the front, and finding a good one on the eastern side as everything's from the west thus far). Good to see it's already B-class though, so once I'm done I might just submit for GAC and see how it goes! Orderinchaos78 12:28, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
